Born in northwestern New Jersey with a rambling stream behind the barn, Ainsley spent many hours there catching crawfish and collecting stones…that passion has stayed with her for close to fifty years! Well, the collecting stones part anyway. After many decades of working in wood, though not turning, she purchased a lathe in 2000 and began learning the techniques of turning stone. In 2002-2003, she attended a stone sculpture class and two figurative sculpture classes at the Maine College of Art in Portland. She lives in a log cabin in rangeley maine with her partner of thirty three years and four dogs, and spends most of her days either hiking or working in her studio out back. The majority of her work is turned on a lathe, although her passion is sculpting, preferring the figurative form.
Ainsley is a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
